Let Me Ride

Let Me Ride
Sitting with Claire
at her mother‘s toilet
Wearing a new skirt
I bought at the mall
Orange suede mini bell-cut
with a heart shaped zipper
I am a sleeper I‘m a keeper
I‘m a Tarzan uptown girl
Claire asks if I want her mascara
and Norma says that I need none at all
I say that girls are like boys
She says that boys are like shit
And all that jazz and all that rock n‘ roll
Chorus:
Anticipation is better than action
On almost every other night in July
We shove ourselves in a taxi
We don‘t care if we‘re sexy
We just wanna be wide eyed and sly
On the stairs of number 14 I am 19
and I don‘t wanna go
To the annual radical carnival
suck-up-to-the-dj show
Instead I put number five on repeat
and tear up through my smile
Sing „let me ride, let me ride,
let me ride on his grace for a while“
But Norma shouts from the bath: „we got tickets“
So I‘d better put some feathers ‘round my eyes
- „but I don‘t feel like it hon‘“
- „well we‘re not born to have fun
and no one knows how you feel in disguise“
Chorus
Go up to his to smoke a joint
and no one knows he‘ll be dead in two weeks
And the paper clichés will say
it‘s so crazy, all the talent we‘ve missed
He brought in coffee on a tray,
what did he look like? tell me, what was his name?
It could have just been me, dead on a line
in Time Out, fifteen lines of fame...
But Norma cares because she really knew him
And Claire just stares, she never has much to say
It‘s 2am and it‘s hot
And I‘m not dead so why not
go out and get a life as long as we may?
Chorus
Just shove me off in a taxi
Tell me I‘m nice and sexy
and you‘ll call me
and tell me bye-bye.
Tell me you‘ll call me and tell me bye-bye.

Black Room

Black Room
To really escape for once
to run away
Run to Europe maybe
Far away
from all the gossip
and the toxic crowd
And the market hall
where everyone can see all and sell all
Here in this black room I save my soul
To really escape for once
To run away
Run to Europe maybe
Far away
from all the gossip
and the toxic crowd
And the market place
where everyone can see I‘ve lost the race
Here in this black room I save my face
Cause it‘s all wrong here
And you‘re all used
And there‘s blood on the ground
This bloody underground
And the wall don‘t say nothing to you
So really escape for once
Just run away
Come to Europe baby
Come away
from all the gossip
and the toxic love
And the market where
they act like they don‘t care
and they‘re just fine
Come to my black room and be all mine.

Parlour Song

Parlour Song
At my father's place
Ed is a welcome guest
Still I was surprised that evening
finding him there
Cross legged on the carpet
like some Buddha with a smile
So calm so self assured
of what he came there for
Chorus:
Eddie drove
oh three hundred miles from work
Just to say he loved me
and I knew he meant every word
Although I said „that‘s nonsense Ed“
and now
Oh tell me Ed,
what are we gonna do now?, yeah.
„Hey Ed, how you doing“ says I
and sit myself in front of him
„I thought you were away on work
somewhere in the city of demons“
„Actually I am“ - says Eddie -
„I‘m going back there tonight.
I came just for two hours“
says he came to be with me!
Chorus
I thought it would be polite of me
to spend the two hours with him
And as we sat there chatting
on the carpet, time and space swung by
And once I caught a glimpse of Ed‘s eye
and suddenly it dawned upon me
That Ed was now free to love me
and Ed truly loved me
Chorus
It was time for him to leave
and so we rose
And I gave Ed my hand
and then he leaned and whispered to me
„You know I‘ve always loved you, Sharon,
and I always will“
and I said: „cut the nonsense, Ed“
and slid back to the parlour.

Tuesday Parties

Tuesday Parties
They invited him to their Tuesday party
These people he didn‘t really know
And when he arrived there he saw
Andy and Dora
Andy and Dora and six bottles of red
A couple playing Trivial
And Olivia
just leaving, Olivia...
„I thought you were having a party“ he said
„Yeah we are, it‘s our Tuesday party“ Andy said
five bottles of red
„and why did that Olivia leave?“
- „Well you know, she‘s just naive and young, you know
So she had to go“
„I am just as young“ he said
at which Dora laughed and threw back her head
Is it a snake or a dread?, he thought.
Four bottles of red
yeah, four bottles of red
Andy put some bad record on
And the other couple said that they had to move on
„take me with you!“ he called from the floor
but they were going where his house was not
or they heard him no more.
„ah, don‘t worry“ said Dora
„don‘t worry“ Andy said
Yeah, three bottles of red
He tried to rise but bumped into the edge of the bed
And Dora all over him, blond and overfed
And something was dripping from or next to his head
Two bottles of red
yeah, two bottles of red
„heart! You‘re my heart! I‘ll call you heart!“ she said
and heart, oh heart, oh how he wished he had fled
- „come on, Dora, get off the lad!“ Andy said
- „But heart, oh heart, I wanna take heart to bed!“
one bottle of red...
And she wouldn‘t let go till it was late dawn
And when she dozed off he crawled in between Andy‘s arms
„you‘re like a blackbird“ Andy whispered
„but you don‘t know how to fly just yet“
and he thought, what a pile of crap.
He slid back to his underpants and raincoat
And his head was in a boom
And he crawled out of the room
And he made his way home
Never again Tuesday parties.

No
03:21
|

No
He was playing his guitar
Playing Beatles from some notes he had
„don‘t you dare to look at me
and don‘t you dare to sing along“, he said.
But getting softer with the song
He took me and he rubbed his cheek
against mine, oh...
„do you know how much I loved you?“
said I
„you still do“, he said.
I said: „You‘re wrong“.
„I don‘t love you like before“,
said I, „but kiss me“.
As he did his mouth was dry.
„No I don‘t love you like before,
but kiss me“, said I
As he did, my soul was sore.

What You Shouldn't
03:05
|
|||
What you Shouldn‘t
Thinking about what you shouldn‘t
How many days have you got?
Is it ten or twelve
well you couldn‘t care less
As long as it‘s no more than that.
You‘re dreaming about what you shouldn‘t
Walking out here after dark
All the hats in the world
wouldn‘t keep of the cold
from your head and your head from your heart.
And you try...
Just because some feelings ain‘t intense
Doesn‘t mean that they are gone.
And you are written on my face
Like sea-dirt on a stone.
Like a kiss of the hand,
Like a curtsey or bow
And how could you remember now?
So it seems when old age takes its toll
And all you know is all you wanna know
and that is all
Short of having happened
Shelter for a while
Settling for the second
Going out in style
Wrong in all you reckoned
Fibbing on a trial
And you try and you try and you try
And you try...
But now you are back where you started
Now you are playing the slut
You‘re thinking about what you shouldn‘t
But how many days have you got?

Stage Bar

Stage Bar
- „Do you like the concert?“
- „Me? oh no no no no I don‘t like the show,
I don‘t like life either“
- „Oh, me neither“
- „Oh well what do you know“
so I spoke to J.R. in the stage bar
down by the pinball machine
with my face to his cause he lives in a squat
and I wanna move in
from the corner comes Annette
with a peach dress and her curls all a mess
me, I‘ve never seen her in my life before
„can you give me your push-up bra please?“ She says
„cause I wanna striptease
just to pass the time, the gig is such a bore“
It‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her, he says
it‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her.
- „Do you like the concert?“
- „Me? oh no no no no I don‘t like the show
I don‘t like life either“
- „Oh, me neither“
- „Oh well what do you know“
So I stood with what‘s her name and played my game
On the pinball machine
Sold another sticky Sunday evening out
when I should have stayed in.
From the corner comes Annette
She‘s all a mess, in a trashy pink dress
Told her many times, don‘t dress up like a whore.
Here we go, I know she‘ll make a scene
She‘ll start to say something obscene
And we‘ve been through this so many times before
It‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her, I say,
It‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her.
I don‘t like this concert
Oh, no no no no no I don‘t like this show
And I don‘t like to be myself tonight and watch
How far he‘s gonna go.
I see her working at it, give her credit,
down by the pinball machine
With her face to his, well, I‘m not made of air
And not playing it clean.
From the corner here I come
Glass, bottles, cries, in my ears and my eyes
Stumbling through the chairs
I see the flashing score.
„Can you give me your push-up bra please?“ I say
„Cause I wanna striptease“
look at me! look at me! look at me some more!
It‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her, he says
it‘s my girlfriend, don‘t listen to her.

Who Made Who?

Who Made Who?
Sitting for hours
you‘re drawing in colours
I‘ll see what you make of me
Now on the landing
You and I standing
Here you‘ll be hanging me
Your arm ‘round my waist
Asks if it‘s to my taste
What you have made of me
But as I look at it I see my true
pale colours don‘t come close to this bright hue
And as I turn away I‘m torn in two
Me-you, you, you, you.
Now on the landing
She sits while I‘m standing
What you have made of me
All come and admire
The thrill and the fire
They‘re all too blind to see
Accomplished in water
And fattened for slaughter
See what you‘ve made of me
Now everyone who‘ll look we‘ll say it‘s true
My colours don‘t come close to this bright hue
And everywhere I turn I‘m torn in two
Me-you, you, you, you.
Yeah, they all admire
Your thrill and your fire
And what you have made of me
I watch you shake hands
Now I see where it stands
I see what you‘re made of - me!
I see what you‘re made of
I see what you‘re made of
I see what you‘re made of - me!
Now even in the dark I know it‘s true
My colours aren‘t a match to my bright twin
But he who has the knife can easily win
And he who has no life be easily slain
Her colours bleeding now in red and blue
And when you wake you‘ll find it torn in two
Me-you, you, you, you.

Dive Bar

Dive Bar
Warm air in my car
I drive to the dive bar
Looking out for a casual encounter
With a rock n‘ roll star
To tell me what to wear
and how to do my hair
And kick out all the nothings
From the bed that we‘ll share
All I wanted was not to have a rerun
And all I wanted was to set the past right
All I wanted was to be taken by surprise
Inside my kitchen
Eye shadow on a bruise
Am I in your web-cam?
Wide street, fit for a cruise
I‘m the Goddess of Mayhem
I‘ll tell you what to wear
and how to do your hair
And kick out all the nothings
From the bed that we‘ll share
All I wanted was not to have a rerun
And all I wanted was to set the past right
All I wanted was to be taken by surprise
Inside your kitchen
Now it‘s one night before
And expectations are high
Meet me on our shore
With some day out supplies
I will pull your hair cause you,
you look like me
And the sun escapes
As we quicken our pace.
All I wanted was not to have a rerun
And all I wanted was to set the past right
All I wanted was to be taken by surprise
Inside a kitchen.
I cannot afford to lose you
But still it is so
And it is so...
So ten years ago!

Music Box
I‘ve fallen fallen fallen
but now I‘ve reached the ground
In falling there was charm around me
powders stunned me shelves surround me
falling falling falling
But now I‘ve reached the ground
There‘s nothing here, it‘s cold
I fear that I miss falling down
Surrendered to the whirl I was in
Felt the night‘s good ghosts enclosed in
falling through a silver screen
With eyes serene I have fallen
But on the ground the air is clear
And it has stirred my soul to see that
Fallen
fallen
fallen
You have not
with
me.
